今回は、ギターの超重要とも言えるネックの健康状態を維持するために調整機構として重要な役割を果たす「トラスロッド」について、皆さんに知っておいてほしいことをまとめました。

～なぜトラスロッドの調整が必要なの？放置するとどうなる？～

では、なぜトラスロッドの調整が必要なのでしょうか？放置すると、ギターにどんな影響が出てしまうのでしょうか？

・弦高の変化: ネックが反ると、弦とフレットの間隔（弦高）が変化します。 順反りに反ると弦高が高くなり、弦が押さえにくく、指が疲れやすくなります。逆反りの場合は弦高が低くなりすぎて、フレットに弦が当たりやすくなり、音詰まりやビビリの原因になります。

・演奏性の悪化: 弦高が適切でないと、スムーズなフィンガリングやピッキングが難しくなり、演奏性が著しく低下します。ギター初心者の方にとっては、弾く事自体が苦痛になってしまうことも…。

・ギター本体への負担: ネックが反った状態を放置すると、ネック自体に更なる負担がかかり、最悪の場合、ネックがトラスロッドの調整だけでは直せない可能性もでてきます。大切なギターを長く愛用するためにも、適切なメンテナンスは不可欠です。

つまり、トラスロッドの調整は、快適な演奏性を維持し、ギター本来のサウンドを引き出し、そしてギター本体を長持ちさせるために、非常に重要なメンテナンスなのです。

～トラスロッドの調整時期のサインを見逃すな！～

では、どのような時にトラスロッドの調整が必要になるのでしょうか？ギターは様々なサインを送ってくれます。以下の点に気づいたら、調整を検討してみましょう。

・弦高が以前より高くなった（または低くなった）と感じる。→以前の反り状態が変わった。

しかし、安易な気持ちで行うと、ギターに致命傷を与えてしまう可能性もあります。

自分で調整を行う場合は、以下の点に十分に注意してください。

・適切な工具を使用する: トラスロッドの種類によって、使用するレンチのサイズや形状が異なります。合わない工具を使用すると、ロッドやナットを破損させる可能性があります。

・少しずつ調整する: 一度に大きく回すと丁度いいポイントが分かり難くなります。45～90度程度の感覚で調整を行っては弾いて確認を繰り返しましょう。

~ The backbone of the guitar! What is a truss rod? ~ What is a truss rod?

First of all, let us answer the question, “What in the world is a truss rod?” First, let’s answer the question, “What exactly is a truss rod?

A truss rod is a rod installed in the center of the neck of a guitar that adjusts the warp of the neck.
It is mainly used to correct the warping of the neck caused by the tension of the strings (in the direction of the strings).

Guitar necks are made of wood and are exposed to strong string tension.
If left unattended, the neck will gradually bend in the forward direction, making the strings higher, harder to play, or in the worst case, impairing your playing.

This is where the truss rod comes in! By turning and adjusting the rod, the warped neck can be corrected and kept in proper condition. It is truly the “backbone” of the guitar.
