フェンダーUSA製ストラトキャスターのノイズ問題の相談です。

弦に触れてもノイズが消えない状態です。

お客様にお話を伺うと新パッケージのエリクサー弦に交換して（弦は新品で購入したばかり）から急にノイズが出てきたとの事です。

テスターでチェックしてみると巻き弦が通電せず、巻き弦は弦アースが機能しない状態です。

念の為に内部配線も確認しましたが問題無く、巻き弦の通電が悪いのでエリクサー弦の使用で弦アースが取れない事から弾いててノイズが出る事は間違いない状態です。

エリクサーのベース弦では昔からこうしたトラブルは起こっていたりしたのですが、ギター弦ではあまり聞かなかったので驚きました。

過去のYoutubeでも弦の製造に関わった方との対談でエリクサーはコーティング加工時の後処理で表面を削っているそうですが、この削りが甘いと弦の金属部分が露出せず弦アースが取れない状態になると思います。

上記はあくまでも予想ですが、現に通電しないのはコーティングが厚い状態ですので弦アースが取れない状態での使用は難しいです。

プレーン弦に触れていれば良いのですが、そうした意識を持って弾かないと通電しないエリクサーに当たってしまった際はややこしい事になります。

I’m consulting about noise issues with a Fender USA Stratocaster.

The noise persists even when touching the strings.

According to the customer, the noise suddenly started after replacing the strings with a new package of Elixir strings (the strings were brand new when purchased).

Testing revealed the wound strings are not conducting electricity, meaning the string ground is not functioning.

I also checked the internal wiring as a precaution, but found no issues. Since the wound strings are not conducting properly, it’s clear that the string ground isn’t being established when using Elixir strings, causing the noise when played.

I’ve heard of similar issues with Elixir bass strings for a long time, but I was surprised to hear about this happening with guitar strings.

In a past YouTube interview with someone involved in string manufacturing, they mentioned that Elixir strings undergo surface grinding during post-coating processing. If this grinding is insufficient, the metal part of the string remains unexposed, preventing proper string grounding.

This is just my guess, but since the current isn’t flowing due to the thick coating, using the strings without proper grounding is tricky.

It’d be fine if you were playing plain strings, but if you don’t keep that in mind and end up with non-conductive Elixir strings, things get complicated.

フェンダーUSA製ストラトキャスターのペグ交換・ナット溝切り調整・フレットすり合わせ・配線直しです。

フレットが全体的に大きく消耗、ナット溝が高い弦がある状態で演奏面で不具合が起きています。

配線が素人作業されている状態で、ボリューム・セレクターにガリがあるので交換、ついでにジャックも交換し信号ラインは問題が起きない様に仕上げました。

ペグは注意点として、交換するペグによっては綺麗に付かない場合があります。

交換するペグにてブッシュ径が合わないのでコンバーションブッシュで対応しました。
ペグはナット止めタイプだと10ｍｍ穴が空いている事が多く、ビスのみで止まっているクルーソンタイプは穴が小さいので交換時は要注意です。互換性はありません。
こうした交換を簡単にする為にコンバージョンブッシュというパーツが存在するので、加工せず交換したい場合はこのブッシュが別途必要になります。

しかしペグ穴ピッチが合わなくなりペグの間に隙間がある状態（使用に問題無し）になる事もあるので、見た目は悪くなりますがビスが掛かる程度であれば付く分に問題はありません。
6連クルーソンタイプ等に交換する際は綺麗に付かない事もあるのでコンバージョンブッシュを使って交換できるとしても見た目上で難点が出る可能性はありますのでこの辺りも要注意です。
気になる人は同タイプのペグに交換する（クルーソンタイプ←→シャーラータイプと仕様を変える交換を行わない）事をお勧めします。

お客様の要望で1音下げにセッティングしました。
ネックコンディションも良くロッドの余り量も多い状態です。

こうした事で分かる事として、ダウンチューニング等で弦張力がネックに負荷を与えている期間が少ない程に当然ながら順反りし難くなります。
弦は緩めて保管しないといけない理由が分かると思いますが、ネックは弦張力で順反りしていく物なので使用していない時は負荷を無くす為に緩めて保管していると長持ちします。

Fender USA Stratocaster: Peg replacement, nut slot adjustment, fret leveling, and rewiring.

The frets show significant overall wear, and some strings have high nut slots, causing playability issues.

The wiring was amateurishly done, with crackling noise in the volume and selector switches, so they were replaced. The jack was also replaced to ensure the signal path is problem-free.

Note regarding the tuning pegs: Depending on the replacement pegs used, they may not fit perfectly.
The bushings didn’t match the diameter of the replacement pegs, so conversion bushings were used.
Nut-retaining type pegs often have a 10mm hole, while Kluson type pegs have a smaller hole, so caution is needed during replacement.
Conversion bushings exist to simplify such replacements. If you want to replace them without modification, these bushings are required separately.

However, this may cause the peg hole pitch to mismatch, resulting in gaps between the pegs (though this does not affect functionality). While this looks unsightly, it’s acceptable as long as the screws hold securely.
When replacing with a 6-string Kluson type, for example, a perfect fit might still be difficult. Even if conversion bushings allow the replacement, cosmetic imperfections are possible, so be aware of this.
For those concerned, we recommend replacing with the same type (e.g., Kluson type ←→ Kluson type; avoid changing specifications like Kluson to Schaller).

We set it down one step per customer request.
The neck condition is good, and there is ample rod adjustment remaining.

This illustrates an important point: the less time strings exert tension on the neck (e.g., during down-tuning), the less prone it becomes to warping.
This explains why strings should be stored loosened. Since neck warping occurs under string tension, storing the instrument with strings loosened removes this load, prolonging its lifespan.
