    トーンランド製テレキャスターのPU交換・セットアップです。

    交換するPUはグリニングドッグ製60年代モデルセットです。

    フロントはモッサリ系、リアは枯れた明るい系で昔のテレキャスターらしさが出るサウンドです。

    当然ながらこの仕様という事は音量バランスが悪いという事です。
    昔のテレキャスターはフロントの音が小さいです。本当はこの難点だけは再現してほしくない点ですけどね。

    フロントとリアで音量バランスが悪いのでセンターで良い音がするバランスを取るのが難しいPUでもあります。
    近年のテレキャスターはフロントの音量がリアと釣り合う様な物が多いので、これに慣れていると単純に古い年代は扱い難いです。

    フロントはアコースティック感があり柔らかく自然な良いサウンド、リアは下げ目の方が痛い所が出なくてフロントとバランスが取れて使いやすいがセンターの音は上げ目の方が良いサウンドです。

    テレキャスターはこうした仕様もあり全てのポジションで良い音が出るのは難しいと思いますが、この辺りは企業努力で改善できそうな気もします。
    むしろリアのパワーを下げてフロントに合わせた方が良いと思うので、メーカーもこの辺りに力を入れてほしい所です。

    This is a PU replacement and setup for a Tornland Telecaster.

    The PUs to be replaced are a set of 60’s model made by Grinning Dog.

    The front is a mossy sound, and the rear is a dead bright sound, which is typical of the old Telecaster.

    Of course, this specification means that the volume balance is not good.
    Old Telecaster has a low front sound. I really don’t want this problem to be reproduced.

    It is difficult to get a good sound in the center because the volume balance between front and rear is not good.
    Most of the recent Telecasters have the front volume balanced with the rear volume, so if you are used to this type of PU, it is simply difficult to handle the older models.

    The front has a nice acoustic sound, soft and natural, and the rear is easier to use when it is lowered to balance with the front, but the center sound is better when it is raised.

    It is difficult to get a good sound in all positions for the Telecaster due to these specifications, but I think this area could be improved through corporate efforts.
    I would rather lower the rear power and match it to the front, so I would like to see manufacturers put more effort into this area.

  • アトリエZ製BETA4のセットアップです。

    順反りして弾き難い状態です。
    全体的に弦高も高めで弾き難いです。

    ベースという太い弦を張る・長いネックによる高負荷な状態は基本的に順反りやハイ起きする事が当然に考える事が当たり前です。
    多くのメーカーでも採用されていますが「ベースはハイ起きが起こる物」と考えてハイポジションが最初から削り落とされている（指板からのパターンやフレットすり合わせで落としてある等）仕様があります。
    また当たり前なのですがメーカーがこうした状態が悪くなる事を想定して作っているので、弦を張りっぱなしが良くない事かこれでも理解できると思います。

    こちらのモデルは古いモデル？なのか、現行品と仕様が異なる様子です。
    このモデルもハイ起き防止でこの様な状態になっている事だと思うがハイポジション弦高が妙に高く弾き難い為、シムを2枚入れて全体を弾き易くしました。

    この辺りはメーカーというよりも消費者に無知な人が多く、自分の無知と保管の悪さで楽器状態を悪くしているのに結果として「このメーカー品はダメ」と言う人が大多数な事が問題です。

    具体的に状態が悪くなる事を想定して製作しているメーカーはとても素晴らしい事です。
    しかしそれを使用する側が状態を悪くする限度の想定を超えるまで扱いが酷い為、それらも考慮した状態で作ってしまうと過剰な状態（削られ過ぎで弾き難い等）になってしまいます。
    このモデルもその様な感じに思います。

    メーカーもハッキリと「この製品ラインはブランドでしか物を選ばない人向けの物」と「知識があり扱いには相応の事ができる人向けだが最高のパフォーマンスを約束する物」とハッキリさせて販売した方が良いでしょう。

    This is a BETA4 setup made by Atelier Z.

    It is hard to play due to the forward warp.
    The overall string height is also high, making it difficult to play.

    It is natural to assume that a bass guitar with thick strings and a long neck will have a forward warp or high rise.
    Many makers have adopted a specification in which the high position is cut off from the beginning (e.g., by a pattern from the fretboard or by fret matching), considering that “basses are designed to be played high”.
    It is also common practice for the manufacturer to make the strings in such a way that they will not be able to be left in place, so you can understand why it is not a good idea to leave the strings in place.

    This model is also made with the intention of preventing the strings from getting up too high, but the high position string height is strangely high and difficult to play, so two shims were added to make it easier to play.

    The problem in this area is that many consumers are ignorant rather than the makers, and the majority of people say “this maker’s product is no good” as a result of their own ignorance and poor storage, even though they are making the condition of the instrument worse.

    It is a wonderful thing when a manufacturer makes a product with the specific expectation that it will be in bad condition.
    However, if the condition of the instrument is so bad that it exceeds the limit of the deterioration of the condition of the user, the condition of the instrument will be excessive (too much grinding, hard to play, etc.).
    I think this model is like that.

    It would be better for the manufacturer to clearly state that “this product line is for people who only select things based on brand” and “this product line is for people who are knowledgeable and can handle it reasonably well, but promises the best performance”.

    ギブソン製レスポールスペシャルのネック折れリペアです。

    接着のみで修理の内容です。

    特に問題無く接着のみで直せましたが大きく順反りしており、調整でトラスロッド限界になりました。

    また不具合としてトラスロッドの仕込みが悪い様子で効きが悪い・ロッドが抜けてきている様子で弾いてるとネックが順反りしてくる事が分かります。

    この様にナットからトラスロッドのネジ山が多く突き出ている個体は要注意です。

    ギブソンは特に接着精度の悪さが目立つ為、内部の大事なトラスロッドの仕込みも上手くできず効きが悪い個体や内部のT字の引っ掛かりが悪く抜けてくる物も多いです。
    他にトラブル例として指板が剥がれてくる・ネックがボディから取れる等も起きてきます。

    ネット情報の勘違いでよくある「トラスロッドを一気に回したら壊れる」等の間違った知識情報はギブソン等から来ていると思われます。

    回して壊れる事は有り得ません。壊れる様にできているメーカーの責任です。
    ちゃんとできてたら壊れる事はまず有り得ません。
    他に壊れる原因としてトラスロッドが限界状態で回らないのに無理に回して壊すパターン位です。

    Repair of a broken neck on a Gibson Les Paul Special.

    The repair was done by gluing only.

    There was no problem and it could be repaired only by gluing, but the neck was warped in order and the truss rod was at the limit after adjustment.

    The truss rod was not properly installed and the rod was coming out of the neck.

    Be careful if you see many truss rod threads protruding from the nut as shown here.

    Because of the poor gluing accuracy of Gibson guitars, the important internal truss rod installation may not work properly, and many guitars may come loose due to poor hooking of the internal T-joints.
    Other problems include the fingerboard peeling off and the neck coming off the body.

    The common misconception on the Internet that turning the truss rod all at once will break it seems to have come from Gibson and other manufacturers.

    It is impossible for a truss rod to break by turning it at once. It is the manufacturer’s responsibility that the truss rod is made in such a way that it breaks.
    If the truss rod is properly made, it will never break.
    The only other cause of breakage is when the truss rod is at its limit and cannot be turned, but is forced to be turned and broken.

  • リッケンバッカー製330のセットアップ・トグルスイッチ交換です。

    フロントの音が出ない状態ですがトグル不良でしたので新品に交換する事で音が問題無く出る状態になりました。

    かなり大きく順反りして弾き難い状態です。
    トラスロッドを限界まで回したがまだまだ足りないレベルです。
    一応は弾けるレベルです。

    リッケンバッカー製で気を付けないといけない事として精度の悪さです。
    トラスロッドの効きも悪い・細いトラスロッドを使用しているので回して折れる可能性が出てきます。
    この辺りは私が触って万が一破損が起こった場合でも一切保証はしておりません。
    この構造で製造しているメーカーの責任ですので、使用する側も理解した上で購入しないとダメです。

    これ以上順反りしてしまうのまともに弾けなくなると思いますが、基本はこうならない様に大事に保管していないといけません。

    具体的には弦を緩めて保管する、乾燥による縮小（順反りし易い傾向）を防ぐ為に適度の湿度を保つ必要があります。

    This is a setup and toggle switch replacement for a Rickenbacker 330.

    The front sound was not coming out, but the toggle switch was defective, so we replaced it with a new one.

    The front end of the instrument was not sounding well, but the toggle switch was defective.
    The truss rod was turned to the limit, but it is still not enough.
    It is at a level where it can be played.

    The Rickenbacker made guitar is not precise enough.
    The truss rod is also ineffective and thin, so there is a possibility of breaking it by turning it.
    I do not guarantee any damage in this area in the unlikely event that I touch it.
    It is the responsibility of the manufacturer who manufactures the product with this structure, so the user must understand this before purchasing.

    If the strings are warped in this order any further, it will be impossible to play the instrument properly, but the basic rule is that the instrument must be stored carefully to prevent this from happening.

    Specifically, the strings should be kept loose, and the proper level of humidity should be maintained to prevent shrinkage due to dryness (which tends to cause warping).

  • エピフォン製EB-3のセットアップです。

    弦高が低過ぎて音詰まりする状態です。
    楽器店で買うと大体は弦高が高い事が多いですが何故か極端に低い物もあったりとバランスが非常に悪いです。

    調整する事で問題無く弾き易い状態に仕上げる事ができました。

    必要な音しか出てないレンジ感で非常に良いベースです。
    ギブソン系はギターの方に注目が集まりますが逆で、ギブソン系はベースが良いです。
    世間の認知はかなりズレが生じて良い物が正しく評価されないのですが、ベースの方がギターよりも優秀です。

    This is an Epiphone EB-3 setup.

    The string height is too low and the sound is clogged.
    When you buy a EB-3 at a music store, the string height is usually high, but for some reason there are some that are extremely low, and the balance is very bad.

    By adjusting the strings, we were able to make them easy to play with no problems.

    It is a very good bass with a range that only produces the necessary sound.
    The Gibson lineup attracts a lot of attention towards the guitars, but the opposite is true: the Gibson lineup has good basses.
    The bass is better than the guitar, although the public perception is quite misaligned and the good ones are not properly appreciated.

  • ハムバッカーのポールピース高さ調整改造　シングルコイルの様にハムバッカーも高さ調整を行う事で音が良くなる。

    ハムバッカーも改造する事で更に音が良くなります。

    PUはそもそも各弦の音量バランスが合っておりません。
    それを調整するだけでも非常に音が良くなります。
    特にシングルコイルの様に調整ができないタイプのPUを改造で高さを整える事で音が非常に良くなる事はリスナーなら知っている事でしょう。

    そしてハムバッカーはあくまで「調整できる片側だけで音量調整をしている」という事です。
    ハムバッカーは2つのシングルコイルを並べた構造で、片方が調整ビスの仕様です。
    このビス側を上げ下げする事で音量バランスを整える訳ですが、結果的にメインはこのビス側で音をコントロールしている事になります。

    基本的に弦の音量は大きく異なるので、部分的に大きく差が出ます。
    分かり易いのは3弦と4弦です。
    3弦プレーン弦は音が大きく、基本的にポールピースをかなり引っ込ませます。
    4弦は逆に音が小さい為、極端に高さが出っ張る事となります。
    それを片側だけで調整している訳ですから、もう片方はバランスが悪い状態で音を拾っている事となります。

    結果的に調整側のコイルで音量を大小させて調整する形になります。

    つまりは調整できない側もバランスを整える事でハムバッカー全体でバランス良く音を拾う事となり音質UPが期待できます。

    Youtubeの有料チャンネル（メンバーシップ限定動画）ではこれらの詳しい話や作業動画をアップしています。

    ハムバッカーは片方を外し、別のハムバッカーから片方を交換する等してオリジナルピックアップを製作できる事を以前の動画でお話しました。

    それとは別にノーマル状態のハムバッカー片側はポールピース高さがフラットです。

    もう片側はビスなので調整できますが、もう片側はそれが行えません。

    これを調整する事で、お互いのコイルがバランス良く音を拾える状態になります。

    具体的にノーマル状態だと、パワーが弱い弦として4弦を例にすると片側はフラットで片側のビスで弦に近づけて音量を整える事となります。
    この形だと「片側があまり音を拾えていない・ビス側をメインで音を拾っている」とう形となります。
    調整できない側を改造でポールピース高を調整する事で、この音を拾うバランスを「5：5」の比率に調整する事が狙いです。

    もちろんこれらも音色なので、このアンバランスさが音に影響している事もありますのが音を拾う形としてはバランスが悪いです。
    これを整える事で音に影響は確実に出てきます。

    結果として音が良くなる事でしょう。

  • マーチン製OOO-18のセットアップです。

    アコギは弦張力が強いのでネックが順反りし易く、尚且つトップ材が浮いて弦高が高くなる原因となります。

    トラスロッドも最初から余裕が少なく、順反りを調整したらトラスロッド限界となりました。

    こうした状態もブログを読んでいたら決して珍しい状態じゃない事は知っていると思いますが、長持ちさせる為に買う前にトラスロッドの余り量を確認してから買わないといけません。
    それを怠るなら「ジャンク品を買うかもしれない行為」と覚えておきましょう。

    PUが増設されておりアンプからの音が良い音質でした。

    This is a setup for a Martin OOO-18.

    The neck of an acoustic guitar tends to bow forward due to the high string tension, and the top wood floats, causing the string height to be high.

    The truss rod has little room from the beginning, and after adjusting the forward warp, the truss rod was at the limit.

    If you read our blog, you know that this kind of condition is not uncommon, but you have to check the truss rod margin before you buy to make sure it will last a long time.
    If you fail to do so, remember that you may be buying junk.

    The PU was added and the sound from the amp was of good quality.

    ジェームスタイラー製USAクラシックのPU交換・セットアップです。

    リアをSuhr製ASATOBACKERに交換です。

    音が整っていてヴィンテージ感のモッサリとし過ぎないサウンド、SuhrのPUは良く出来ていて勧められるモデルが多いです。

    リアは暴れず良くまとまっているが地味にも感じるので、モダン系にも見えるギターな事と使用用途としてどこを目指しているのかにもよりますがモダン系に寄せた方が使い易いかもしれません。

    ASATOBACKERはモダン系ギターにはイメージとしては音が暗いので、狙って行うならOKですがアンバランスに感じるかもしれません。

    The rear is replaced with a Suhr ASATOBACKER.

    Suhr PUs are well made and recommended for many models.

    The rear is well put together, but it also feels a bit plain, so it might be easier to use it in a modern style, depending on the guitar’s modern look and where you are aiming to use it.

    The ASATOBACKER has a dark sound as an image for a modern guitar, so it is OK if that is what you are aiming for, but it may seem unbalanced.
