ギブソン製SGのフレット交換です。
過去にフレット交換歴がある個体です。かなり消耗しています。
古いモデルのブリッジにて、修理受付時にも確認しましたがこの板バネブリッジによりサドルに力が殆ど掛かっていない為に音が鳴りきらない状態です。
弦の支点がサドルに集中しないので、弦が簡単に持ち上がりサドルから簡単に外れる位の張力しか掛かっていません。
ジャガーやジャズマスターのバズストップバーが必要な状態に似ています。
板バネ部分がサドル近くに当たる所さえ直せたら良いのですが、もしくはブリッジ底面のパットを取って少しでもボディ側に下げたい所ですが傷や凹みができると思います。
もしくは板バネの弦が当たる所を削ってサドルに力が掛かる様に加工するか等。
サドルにテンション不足が起こり鳴りきらせるのが難しく、弦高が低めには下げられない状態。
弦高は標準の1.5ｍｍで気にならないレベル、それ以下はサドルのテンション不足問題で難しそうです。
これらを元に相談し、ジャンボフレットに交換して少しでもサドルの弦高が上がってサドルへのテンション感が上がり鳴りきる状態にできる様に交換しました。
フレット交換だとせいぜい0.2～0.3ｍｍ大きくなるレベルなので大きな改善とまでは言い切れませんが、それでも以前よりは良くなりました。
またジャンボフレットはスキャロップ加工の様な弾き心地にも近くなるのでハイポジションが押さえ易くなり、小さいフレットよりも弾き易く感じると思います。
昔のモデルは今よりも太い弦が主流だった為、ジャガーやジャズマスターもそうですがこうしたテンション不足で弦が鳴りきらない問題が目立っていなかったと思います。
なので現代のライトゲージが主流な仕様だと、昔の構造のまま使用するとおかしな事になります。

This is a fret replacement on a Gibson SG.
This guitar has had its frets replaced in the past. They are quite worn down.
It features an older-style bridge. As I confirmed when I received the guitar for repair, this leaf-spring bridge places almost no pressure on the saddle, resulting in a lack of full tone.
Since the string’s support point isn’t concentrated on the saddle, the tension is so low that the strings lift up easily and come off the saddle with little force.
This situation is similar to that of a Jaguar or Jazzmaster requiring a buzz stop bar.
Ideally, I’d like to fix the part of the leaf spring that contacts the saddle, or remove the pad on the bottom of the bridge to lower it slightly toward the body—though I suspect this would cause scratches or dents.
Alternatively, I could file down the part of the leaf spring where the strings contact it to ensure tension is applied to the saddle.
The lack of tension on the saddle makes it difficult to get the strings to resonate fully, and the action cannot be lowered much further.
The action is at the standard 1.5 mm, which is not a problem, but lowering it any further seems difficult due to the lack of tension on the saddle.
Based on this, we discussed the options and decided to replace the frets with jumbo frets. This was done to raise the string height at the saddle slightly, increase the tension on the saddle, and allow the strings to resonate fully.
Since replacing the frets only increases the height by about 0.2 to 0.3 mm at most, I can’t say it’s a major improvement, but it is still better than before.
Additionally, jumbo frets provide a playing feel similar to scalloped frets, making it easier to fret in the higher positions, so I think they feel easier to play than smaller frets.
Since older models were designed for thicker strings than today’s standards—as seen with the Jaguar and Jazzmaster—I don’t think the issue of strings not resonating fully due to insufficient tension was as noticeable back then.
Therefore, with modern light-gauge strings being the norm, using the original construction as-is leads to some strange results.
