TONE LAND テレキャスター PU交換＆セットアップ Grinning Dog 60 caster set

トーンランド製テレキャスターのPU交換・セットアップです。

交換するPUはグリニングドッグ製60年代モデルセットです。

フロントはモッサリ系、リアは枯れた明るい系で昔のテレキャスターらしさが出るサウンドです。

当然ながらこの仕様という事は音量バランスが悪いという事です。
昔のテレキャスターはフロントの音が小さいです。本当はこの難点だけは再現してほしくない点ですけどね。

フロントとリアで音量バランスが悪いのでセンターで良い音がするバランスを取るのが難しいPUでもあります。
近年のテレキャスターはフロントの音量がリアと釣り合う様な物が多いので、これに慣れていると単純に古い年代は扱い難いです。

フロントはアコースティック感があり柔らかく自然な良いサウンド、リアは下げ目の方が痛い所が出なくてフロントとバランスが取れて使いやすいがセンターの音は上げ目の方が良いサウンドです。

テレキャスターはこうした仕様もあり全てのポジションで良い音が出るのは難しいと思いますが、この辺りは企業努力で改善できそうな気もします。
むしろリアのパワーを下げてフロントに合わせた方が良いと思うので、メーカーもこの辺りに力を入れてほしい所です。

This is a PU replacement and setup for a Tornland Telecaster.

The PUs to be replaced are a set of 60’s model made by Grinning Dog.

The front is a mossy sound, and the rear is a dead bright sound, which is typical of the old Telecaster.

Of course, this specification means that the volume balance is not good.
Old Telecaster has a low front sound. I really don’t want this problem to be reproduced.

It is difficult to get a good sound in the center because the volume balance between front and rear is not good.
Most of the recent Telecasters have the front volume balanced with the rear volume, so if you are used to this type of PU, it is simply difficult to handle the older models.

The front has a nice acoustic sound, soft and natural, and the rear is easier to use when it is lowered to balance with the front, but the center sound is better when it is raised.

It is difficult to get a good sound in all positions for the Telecaster due to these specifications, but I think this area could be improved through corporate efforts.
I would rather lower the rear power and match it to the front, so I would like to see manufacturers put more effort into this area.

James Tyler USA CLASSIC BURNING WATER FINISH PU交換＆セットアップ Suhr ASATOBACKER

ジェームスタイラー製USAクラシックのPU交換・セットアップです。

リアをSuhr製ASATOBACKERに交換です。

音が整っていてヴィンテージ感のモッサリとし過ぎないサウンド、SuhrのPUは良く出来ていて勧められるモデルが多いです。

リアは暴れず良くまとまっているが地味にも感じるので、モダン系にも見えるギターな事と使用用途としてどこを目指しているのかにもよりますがモダン系に寄せた方が使い易いかもしれません。

ASATOBACKERはモダン系ギターにはイメージとしては音が暗いので、狙って行うならOKですがアンバランスに感じるかもしれません。

This is a PU replacement and setup for a James Steiler USA Classic.

The rear is replaced with a Suhr ASATOBACKER.

Suhr PUs are well made and recommended for many models.

The rear is well put together, but it also feels a bit plain, so it might be easier to use it in a modern style, depending on the guitar’s modern look and where you are aiming to use it.

The ASATOBACKER has a dark sound as an image for a modern guitar, so it is OK if that is what you are aiming for, but it may seem unbalanced.

t.m.p ストラトキャスター PU交換＆ジャック交換＆セットアップ GRINNING DOG

t.m.p製ストラトキャスターのPU交換・ジャック交換・セットアップです。

グリニングドッグ製55年モデルPUに交換、ジャックが消耗で交換しました。

ギター本体もPUも知る人ぞ知るメーカーです。

交換後のサウンドは耳に痛い所が出なくてコンプ感がありますが巻き弦の丸い感じの音が良いです。
プレーン弦の音も痛くないのでストラト的にはマイルドなサウンドになります。
巻き弦がトレブリーにうるさくないので細い音に感じない点も好印象です。

PUの良さを引き出すのも本体の良さが必要なので、良いPUを買う事も大事ですが本体の良さも大事です。
PUだけで音が決まっていると思っている人が多い印象ですが、大事な所はあくまでギター本体です。

This is a PU replacement, jack replacement and setup for a t.m.p Stratocaster.

Replaced with a ’55 model PU made by Grinning Dog, jack replaced due to wear and tear.

The guitar itself and the PU are both made by a well-known manufacturer.

The sound after the replacement is not painful to the ear and has a comped feel but has a nice rounded sound of the wound strings.
The sound of the plain strings is also not painful, so it sounds mildly Strat-like.
I also like the fact that the wound strings are not too loud on the treble so it does not feel like a thin sound.

It is important to buy a good PU, but it is also important to have a good body.
I have the impression that many people think that the sound is determined by the PU alone, but the important part is the body of the guitar.

ハムバッカーピックアップを改造してオリジナルピックアップを製作する方法

PU交換は恐らく初めて自分の楽器を改造する手段になると思います。

PU交換は手っ取り早く音質を大きく変える手段として用いられますが、実は交換だけでない方法で音を変える方法があります。

今回はそんな改造手段の内容です。

意外と簡単に行えるので、他と被らないオリジナルPUを製作する事も可能です。

ハムバッカーの構造は非常に単純です。

台座に2つのシングルコイルが付いているだけです。

この2つのシングルコイルを直列配線する事でハムバッカーとなっています。

台座へはビスで固定しているだけなので、動画の様に分解も簡単です。

つまりはこの2つのシングルコイルは「交換可能」という事です。

例えばAのハムバッカーとBのハムバッカーがあるとして、その片方のコイルを交換すると世の中に存在しないハムバッカーとなります。

もちろん音がどうなるのかは未知数ですが、そもそもピックアップ交換自体も実際は交換してみないと正確な音は分からないので未知数の領域です。

Youtubeやネット情報で音は正確には分からないので、結局は「付けてみないと分からない」が答えです。

なのでこうした改造もPU交換と扱いは変わりません。

一般的にハムバッカーPUは同じ型番がある場合でフロント用とリア用ではリア用の方がパワーが大きくなるモデルが多いです。

特にフロント用だからフロントに付けないといけない決まりは無く、ポールピースの弦ピッチが違う場合がありますが問題無く音を拾えるならどちらに付けても問題はありません。

そして「フロント用はパワーが弱い・リア用はパワーが強過ぎる」という、微妙なパターンもあったりします。

どちらを元に改造しても問題ありませんが、リアPUで「パワーが強くて、少しパワーを下げたい」と思った場合はコイルを弱い物に交換したりする等（抵抗値が元より低い物に交換する等）で対処もできます。

上級者向けにコイルを解いて巻き数を減らす改造もあります。
これらはかなり難しいと思うので交換までが無難でしょう。

ハムバッカーも簡単に行えてレベルアップさせる方法として「調整側のポールピースを2個仕様にする」がお勧めです。

動画でも紹介していますが各弦の音量調整の他に「音色調整」が行える様になります。

ネック側とブリッジ側でポールピースの高さ調整が行える事となりますが、ネック側を上げ気味にすると音が柔らかくなりリア側を上げ気味にすると音が硬くなります。
PU1つで音色調整の幅が広がるのでお勧め改造です。
ベアナックルPU等にこうした仕様のPUがありますね。

PU交換で理想な音を探すのもお勧めですが、ハムバッカー本体を改造して使用する事もお勧めです。

例えばコイルタップで使用して音が良いと感じるPU同士を組み合わせてみるのも面白いかもしれません。

これにより世の中に存在するハムバッカーを使用して様々な組み合わせのハムバッカーを作る事ができます。

ToneLand テレキャスター PU交換＆セットアップ Van Zandt Pickup VINTAGE B for TELE TRUE VINTAGE

トーンランド製テレキャスターのPU交換・セットアップです。

お客様の方で配線がイジられている個体になります。

リアPUをヴァンザント製TRUE VINTAGEに交換しました。

PUを片方だけ交換する際はキャラクターのバランスが重要で、分かってて交換する場合は何も問題ありませんが例えばフロントとリアとで音色が大きく異なると扱い難くなります。

フロントは太くクリーンの音は良いが歪ませると太くて抜けがあまり良くないPUです。

リアは枯れ具合が良く歪みは歯切れが良い、フロントと音色が真逆な個性なので癖があります。

古い年代のテレキャスターはフロントがモッサリとして音量も小さくリアと音色が大きく違うのも確かにあるのですが、近年はリアに合わせて音量が大きくなり音もクリアに寄ったPUが増えています。

この辺りの組み合わせは好みですが、知っててやるのと知らないのでは大きな違いが出ます。

This is a Tornland Telecaster PU replacement and setup.

Wiring has been modified by the customer.

The rear PU has been replaced with a Van Zandt TRUE VINTAGE.

When replacing only one of the PUs, it is important to balance the character of the PUs.

The front PU is fat and has a good clean sound, but when distorted, it is fat and not so good.

The rear has a nice, dry sound and distortion is very crisp, but it has a habit of being the exact opposite of the front.

Older Telecasters have a muffled front and low volume, and there is certainly a big difference in tone from the rear, but in recent years there has been an increase in PUs that are louder and clearer to match the rear.

The combination of these two is a matter of taste, but there is a big difference between knowing it and not knowing it.

FenderJAPAN ジャズベース PU交換＆セットアップ SEYMOUR DUNCAN SJB-2

フェンダージャパン製ジャズベースのPU交換・セットアップです。

セイモアダンカン製SJB-2に交換です。

またネックの状態がかなり良く、やや逆反りしてるがトラスロッドが全く効いていない状態で弦を張って真っ直ぐになる個体です。
古い年代でかなり理想的な状態ですね。
こうした個体と分かった時に初めて「この個体では弦は張りっぱなしで良い」とか言えるんですけどね。

この頃のフェンダージャパン製は非常に良かったのですが、近年の音質や木材強度を考えたらこの頃の中古品を購入してリペアして使用した方が長く使い続けられると思います。

パワフルなローミッドが出るジャズベースとなりました。

This is a PU replacement and setup for a Fender Japan Jazz Bass.

It is replaced with a Seymour Duncan SJB-2.

Also, the neck is in pretty good condition, slightly inverted but the truss rod is not working at all, and the unit can be straightened with the strings.
It’s pretty ideal condition for its old age.

The Fender Japan made at this time were very good, but considering the recent sound quality and wood strength, it would be better to buy a used one from this time and repair it for use for a long time.

It has become a jazz bass with powerful low mid.

Gibson フライングV PU交換＆セットアップセイモアダンカンSEYMOUR DUNCAN SPH90-1 Phat Cat

ギブソン製フライングVのPU交換・セットアップです。

フロントPUを交換持ち込みのファットキャットに交換です。
フライングVがそうなのか他は違うのか不明ですがザグリが浅いのでPUの足が短い物がお勧めです。
ファットキャットはPUの足が短いので薄いボディのザグリにも合います。元の57Classicは床付きして下げれる限度が出てきます。

程好い音の太さで高域も痛くない良いフロントサウンドになりました。

ギブソンのPUでP-94等も名機ですが、何故か良い物が売れないので本当に謎です。
パーツを選ぶ際は有名でない、あまり使われないパーツを選んで下さい。
有名所は大体ステマです。

PU replacement and setup for a Gibson Flying V.

The front PU was replaced with a Fat Cat, which was brought in as a replacement.
I don’t know if it is the same for Flying V or not, but I recommend to use a PU with short legs because of the shallow counterbore.
The Fat Cat has short PU legs, so it fits well with the thin body. The original 57Classic is floored, so there is a limit to how low it can be lowered.

It has a nice front sound with good fatness and not painful high frequencies.

Gibson’s P-94 and other PUs are also famous, but it is really a mystery why good ones don’t sell.
When choosing parts, please choose parts that are not famous and not used very often.
The famous places are usually stellar.

Ibanez AF95FM-AYS PU交換＆セットアップ SEYMOUR DUNCAN SH-55 Seth Lover

アイバニーズ製AF95のPU交換・セットアップです。

セイモアダンカン製SH-55に交換です。

電装配線がパーツ交換されているがハンダ付けが良くない状態です。
ご依頼の要望によりPUのみ交換の内容です。

各所リペア済みの個体との事で弾き易い状態です。

アイバニーズ製は箱物も優秀なのでお勧めです。
意外とエレキギター、メタル系に特化している様に見えるメーカーですがヴィンテージ系・オールドサウンドの面も優秀です。

mayones regius6 PU交換＆セットアップ SEYMOUR DUNCAN NAZGÛL™ Sentient

マヨネーズ製レギウス6のPU交換・セットアップです。

ノイズが大きいとの事で持ち込まれました。

各パーツがアース結線されておらず、銅朴テープを通してアースが取れる前提の配線仕様です。
こうした状態は本当に良くないので直した方が良いです。パーツが緩むと音が出ない・トーンが効かない等のトラブルが簡単に出ます。

パーツのアース結線とPU交換を行いました。ジャックは消耗してるので交換です。

ビス類がブッシュが埋め込められて、そこの内径にビスが止まる様になっておりますがPUの箇所は取れています。
ブッシュは木ネジタイプの物。
PUを外すと埋め込まれたブッシュと一緒に出てきました。
通常ならPUの高さ調整でビスを回すので、ブッシュも一緒に回らない様に接着する等していた方が良いと思います。

PUはセイモアダンカン製のセンティエント・ナズグルに交換です。

音がタイト、日本製のギターみたいな音です。
深く歪ませても音の輪郭があり現代のモダン系として扱い易いサウンドと思います。

This is a PU replacement and setup for a Mayonnaise Regius 6.

It was brought in because of high noise.

Each part is not wired to ground, and the wiring specification is based on the assumption that grounding can be obtained through copper rusted tape.
These conditions are really not good and should be fixed. If the parts are loose, it is easy to have problems such as no sound or tone.

We have wired the parts to ground and replaced the PU. The jack is worn out and should be replaced.

The screws are embedded in the bushings, and the screws stop in the inner diameter of the bushings, but the PU part has been removed.
The bushing is a wood screw type.
When the PU is removed, the bushings and the embedded bushings come out.
Normally, you would turn the screws when adjusting the height of the PU, so it would be better to glue the bushing so that it does not turn with the PU.

The PU is replaced with a Seymour Duncan Sentient Nazgul.

The sound is tight, like a Japanese made guitar.
Even when deeply distorted, the sound has a good contour, and I think it is easy to handle as a modern type of sound.

Musicman StingRay PU交換＆ジャック交換＆セットアップ bartolini MMC

ミュージックマン製スティングレイのPU交換・ジャック交換・セットアップです。

バルトリーニ製MMCのPUに交換です。

もしこのMMCに交換を考えているなら要注意なポイントです。

これは全てのスティングレイの年代を把握していないので不明点はあるのですが、こちらのPUはかなり分厚く、元から付いているPUは薄型でボディ本体ザグリも浅いのでMMCはそのまま付けて入りません（弦に当たる）。
これは年代によりザグリが深いモデルがあるのかまでは不明ですが少なくともこのスティングレイに無加工で取り付けは不可でした。
「スティングレイの交換PU用」として販売されているだけに知らない人が見ると問題無く交換できるPUと勘違いしてしまいます。

更に難点を増やす理由としてPUの配線が太い・PU裏のハンダ箇所が突起として本体から飛び出ているので余計に本体の厚みを増やしている原因となります。
これによりPU本体分のザグリ＋配線が太いのでPU下に潰されない程度のザグリ＋元の配線穴がザグリ上部に空いているので潰されない様に下側にも配線が逃げる穴を空ける＋飛び出たハンダ箇所分のザグリを考えたザグリ増設が必要です。

今回はお客様の要望で丁寧なザグリ加工でなく、その場しのぎ加工で構わないとの事でボール盤で穴を空けて配線やハンダ突起部分を逃がす大まかな加工で対処しました。
最低限、弦にぶつからない程度の所まで取り付けは可能になりましたがPU本体を下げたい際はザグリを深くする加工が必要にあります。

またジャックにガリがあるので交換しました。

各弦の音量バランスが良くEQの乗りも良いPUです。
バルトリーニPUはスタジオミュージシャン等に使われている事も多い理由が分かります。
変な癖が無く音の付け足しがし易いので扱い易いオススメPUです。

調整でトラスロッドが限界状態となりました。
よくある「スティングレイのネックは弱い」みたいな事が昔から言われていますが、皆同じです。
ミュージックマン製品に限らず、多くのメーカー製品はそこまで考えて製造しておらずネックの構造上で弦の強い張力に耐えきる為の工夫等もされておりません。

弦の張力は物凄く強い負荷ですので、補強材を入れる等の工夫はまず必須と言えます。
そして使用する側もその事を理解し、日頃から弾かない時は弦を緩めておかないといけません。

PU replacement, jack replacement and setup for a Musicman Stingray.

This is a replacement for a Bartolini MMC PU.

If you are thinking of replacing it with this MMC, be careful.

I don’t know the age of all Stingray guitars, so there are some unknowns, but this PU is quite thick, and the original PU is thin and the body has a shallow counterbore, so the MMC will not fit in the body as it is (it will hit the strings).
The original PU is quite thick, and the body has a shallow counterbore, so the MMC cannot be installed without modification (it hits the strings).
The MMC is marketed as a “replacement PU for Stingray”, so those who don’t know about it may mistake it for a PU that can be replaced without any problems.

The wiring of the PU is thicker and the solder point on the back of the PU sticks out from the body as a protrusion, which increases the thickness of the body.
Therefore, it is necessary to add a counterbore for the PU body + a counterbore under the PU to prevent the wiring from being crushed by the thick wiring + a hole for the wiring to escape from the original wiring hole on the top of the counterbore + a counterbore for the protruding solder joints.

In this case, the customer requested a makeshift process rather than a detailed counterboring process, so we used a drilling machine to make a hole to allow the wiring and solder protrusion to escape.
We were able to install the PU at least to the point where it would not hit the strings, but if we wanted to lower the PU itself, we would need to deepen the counterbored hole.

The jack has been replaced because it has some buzzing.

The volume of each string is well balanced and the EQ is good.
I can understand why Bartolini PUs are often used by studio musicians.
It is a recommended PU that is easy to handle because it has no strange habits and is easy to add notes.

The truss rod has been adjusted to the limit.
It is often said that “Stingray necks are weak,” but they are all the same.
Not only Musicman products, but many other manufacturers’ products are not manufactured with this in mind, and the neck structure is not designed to withstand the strong tension of the strings.

String tension is a tremendously strong load, so it is essential to use reinforcements or other measures.
The user must understand this and loosen the strings on a daily basis when not playing.
